Union Jack Dresser

I've been waiting to share this with you!  Of course you all know that I am a huge fan of Miss Mustard Seed.  Of course when she posted about her union jack dresser, I just had to try it.  It took a bit of time to find just the right dresser.  After a morning at an auction, here is what I selected:

It really is beautiful but in pretty rough shape.  After stripping the top, priming, and taping it off, here it is ready for the paint.

I used Sherwin Williams naval and kiss just as MMS.  I only used the primer for my white.  I was conflicted as whether or not to distress it but for now decided against it.  I'm very pleased how it turned out.

I decided the old rusting pulls just wouldn't do.  I came across these and felt they were perfect!

My wonderful hubby sanded down the top for me.  It had some water damage to the top.  But after sanding and refinishing, there is no sign of it.  It turned out just as I hoped.

I was going to put it in my booth but I am nervous about what a reasonable price would be to put on it.  Any thoughts would give me a good gage as to if I'm nuts for wanting to put the price I have in my head on it.  I'm dying to know how you guys think it turned out.  Let me know what you think.  Should I distress it, what should the price be, any feedback is good.

I'm sharing over at:

  5. I love the way it turned out! I'm looking for a dresser to duplicate the Union Jack look since seeing it on Miss Mustard Seed's blog. You did a fabulous job! I love the pulls! I don't know that I could part with it but I personally would pay $400 for that piece if I saw it in your booth. And as much as I love distressing I think this piece is perfect as is!

  6. You did a fantastic job! Not every piece needs distressing. Although, it would look nice that way as well. Go with your instincts. Thanks for your visit and compliment.

  8. hi - I priced mine at $660 AUD ($USD697) and it sold within half an hour of putting it in my booth. But i think things are more expensive in australia. I'm about to finish a second one as have had several customers ask for one. good luck selling it. nice job!

  10. Hey! I came across your blog via MMS - love the Union Jack! It looks almost identical...I also saw pictures of your booth - you should take a look at my own booth pics...we have a similar style/location. I'm fairly new to the booth ownership, as well, and would love to "talk shop" one day!

  12. $449.00
I would think after a normal '10% discount" and the shop's commission, you would be to a reasonable price to clear on the piece of work.

  13. Sorry to be a spoiler but my max for a dresser is $300. I think it turned out awesome.

  14. I think you should start at 450.00 but accept no less than 400.00. Everyone loves a deal and this way they think you've given them a price break but you're not cutting yourself short. I've seen a few of these out there in blogland, but honestly, yours is by far THE BEST! I mean that whole heartedly. In ALL of blogland!!

  17. My comment got eaten by Blogger! Price it at $500. It is special, and worthy of the price. You will know in two weeks if that is the right price. If it doesn't sell by the end of August, reduce $100. Leave it as is, if someone wants it distressed, add $50. Good luck Ann

  21. Don't distress it--it's perfect the way it is! Most union jack dressers done recently tend to be distressed so yours would definitely stand out. It looks rich with the lion pulls, too. Absolutely stunning!

  22. Best Union Jack Dresser.. Don't underprice it. You know the hard work you put into it. Remember you can always bring the price down but you'll never know if you undersold it.

    1. It actually spent a bit of time in my booth before it sold. Sometimes you just have to try things out. I always find it amazing that things I think will go fast sometimes sit forever. Whereas, things that I think no one may want get snapped up. It just depends on who may wonder into your booth and what they like. I say give it a try. Price it so you can mark it down. Good luck!
