I cannot tell you how nervous I was going to my first auction. So many people, auctioneers talking sooo fast. The original piece of furniture I intended to bid on I realized was just too big. When I previewed the auction a day early I didn't even think to bring a tape measure. Never fear, the day was not lost. I walked away with two Italian chairs with that oh so cool mustard yellow 70's velvet fabric at $25 for both. So, I walked away with two chairs that I really had no idea what to do with.
At the time, I hadn't really ever done a project other than sewing lined panel curtains. Just thinking of reupholstering the seat covers seemed to terrify me at the time. So what else to do but use a sheet to make slipcovers for them.

Both chairs look so beautiful! Makes me really wish that I could sew! I have never been to an auction. It seems like it would be so fun.
ReplyDeleteThose chairs look amazing. I actually like the mustard velvet Hehe. That color is coming back if you can believe it. I have been to many auctions, and the biggest problem I have ever run into, is my husband. When I would go to the rest room, my husband would buy the most gawd awful pieces because they were cheap while I was gone. We still have them, and they still are ugly and I too would sell them for cheap :)
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome. I need to get mine 4 chairs done.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have you enter this on my party at ItsSoVeryCheri.com and then over at our other site theDIYClub.com We have a weekly DIY Living party over there.

You are braver than me! Going to the auction, buying the chairs and then recovering them. Phew! You did great. And fantastic finds. Maybe someday I'll force myself to go to an auction.

I love auctions. The slipcovers look great, and so functional too, since you can take them off and clean um' up!Beautiful! I really need to learn to sew!
ReplyDeleteThey look absolutely charming. You were brave to attempt these little slipcovers with all of the details, if you didn't have that much experience.
