So soft and sweaters

I don't know about you but this girl cannot pass up anything fluffy and soft.  When I was at Hancock Fabrics, I stumbled upon a super soft winter white faux fur.  $20 later, I walked out with 2 yards of fabric and an itch to get to work.

After pulling out my sofa throw pillows, I decided that they were too lumpy (probably from all of the pillow wars:).  Back out armed with coupons, I come back with two new plush pillow inserts from Joann's.  I am all about doing things nice and easy.  So, I whip up two envelope pillow covers.  I notice I have a lot of fabric left.  You know the saying, waste not, want not.  Now, I am on the hunt for random pillows floating around my house to fluffify (yeah, I know that is not a word).

2 yards of fabric, $20, and 5 pillows later, I have 5 pillows to cuddle up with on these cold winter days.

I have the softness.  Now, I need a pop of color.  Something that says Christmas and winter.  To Salvation Army I went, to find sweaters for more pillows!  I found a red and green sweater that are perfect for the splash of holiday I need to go with my oh so soft pillows.

Since I closed the green pillow with hook and loop, it stretch the sweater pillowcase out on that closure side.  My solution was to weave red ribbon through that end of the pillow to look like a present.  I love, love, love how they turned out!

Upcycled T-shirt Dress

I've been dying to make an upcycled t-shirt dress for my daughter.  I've seen them all over.  I finally decided to give it a try!  Worse case scenario, I have extra rags for when I paint or need to stain something.

I, for some reason, am terrified of sewing clothes.  I am actually more comfortable trying to make a slipcover than clothing.  Don't ask me why, just one of my many idiosyncrasies.  Anyways, I was enjoying Goodwill's 50% off everything sale this past Saturday.  I knew I was wanting to give this t-shirt dress a try, so the search was on for some cool t-shirts for a buck.  Let's just say that I went a little over board.  I really hope I can make one of these dresses because it looks like I will be making a few!

All you need is some t-shirts. 

In this case, I actually bought some white and navy knit fabric to use for this and future dress projects.  I started by trying to figure out the placement of fabrics.  Next, I cut my daughter's shirt a little below the arms.  If I actually had to make the arms and neckline, I doubt if I would be doing this.  Anyways, I knew how long I wanted to make the dress.  So that meant I just had to start piecing the fabrics together to make it work.

Don't you just love the graphic in the middle?!  Anyways, I didn't take a picture but I did piece another strip of navy fabric and orange to get the length I wanted.  I actually used the bottom of the orange t-shirt so I wouldn't have to make a hem.  I sewed the strips together so they will have the raw edges on the outside of the dress.  You can't see it in the picture below because I just had to have my model try it on right then so I could share it with you.  But after a good wash and dry, the raw edges should curl.

Flirty apron

I was doing my weekly check through the local Goodwill and ran across this dress. 

I loved the colors and material.  It was so pretty and feminine.  It reminded me of my younger years.  You know the time where certain parts of your body defied gravity and I could see, oh what's it called, a waistline.  Why should I let a silly thing like the size being a junior 9 and a $3 price tag detour me from somehow feeling younger?! 

Once I had safely purchased it, I thought what should I do with it, pillows perhaps?  I have noticed this trend of cute June Beaverish aprons being crafted.  I have never given much thought to wearing an apron.  I mean how messy can a peanut butter and jelly get?  I threw caution to the wind and decided to give it a try.  I first had to rip out the zipper to save for another pillow project.  I then just pinned and cut and sewed where I thought it may needed to be.  Now, do not laugh.  And please do not ask if I'm expecting because that is a big NO!  But alas, here is what the first go around looked like.

Okay, this definitely didn't make me feel younger or thinner by any means.  Especially when my daughter told me, "Mommy, your belly got bigger."  I'm the first to admit I've got body image issues but who doesn't.  Right??!  Okay, now back to work cutting and sewing.  This is definitely the better version.
