From drab to fab!

Crazy but I came across this post in the drafts section.  I have completed this project so long ago, I really couldn't tell you when it was.  With that being said, I will let you start reading ;)

Well, just like the song says, 'one thing leads to another.'  Yep, you know how it goes.  One project spurs another and another and another.  My dining room started off with this buffet.

Then, I acquired this beauty.

After painting this, there was no way I could keep my cream dining table.  I thought I would sell both my buffet and dining table and chairs.  I dragged out my hubby's grandfather's dining table from under my bed.  I know, not the usual place to store a table.  The story behind the table is hubby's grandfather dug it out of a dumpster and refinished it.  (A man after my own heart!)

I now had a replacement table but no chairs.  I know we don't usually entertain others but chairs do seem to be a necessity.  On the hunt I went!  I came across these four chairs for only $29!  Yes, you read that right.  I paid $29 for ALL four.  Talk about hitting the jackpot!

Okay, they are a lot on the drab side but I knew I could really spruce them up.  You cannot tell from the photo but I believe a dog used these chairs as a chew toy.  After much wood filling and sanding, I used the same paints as my china cabinet, ASCP Paris Gray and Pure White.  Did a little distressing.  Put new foam and fabric on the seats.  This is how it turned out.  You might notice that I also added the leaves to the table.  I really like how it has turned out.  I also picked up 2 parson chairs and made drop cloth slipcovers!  Are you ready to check them out?!  Hold on to your seats because I have taken tons of photos to share.  I was playing with my new wide angle camera lens.  I will start with the chairs.

Now to show you it all put together.

Drop in and let me know how it looks.  It will be changing soon due to something I have up my sleeve!  Be sure to check back!

Finally, a chair worthy of a queen!

Have you ever had that project that hung over your head?  Maybe for like say 3 or 4 years?  Okay, maybe some of you have not mastered the art of procrastination like I have.  This is the reason for my procrastination:

I posted about this beauty here.  She doesn't look bad until I started to undress her.  Her bone structure looked great but as with age comes some problems.  I am sure you gals don't know a thing about that (wink, wink).  The fabric just shredded apart.  The horse hair was so full of dust.  It wasn't until I realized there was like a zillion tack and staple holes, from who knows how many upholstery jobs, that the procrastination started to set in.  I got this beauty in 2011.  It was stripped down and left in the garage, I am ashamed to say, until this winter.  My husband over time removed all the tacks and staples.  He said he found it relaxing, crazy right?!

This chair was a great storage area in the garage over the years.  But much like the hoarders on TV, my husband forced me to take action.  He reclaimed his garage and plopped the chair down in our entryway.  So, now that the forced action was clearly being aimed at me, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work.  I won't really bore you with the details just give you lots of pictures.  Are you ready to see the transformation?!

She turned out amazing.  Surprisingly, this project went super quick.  The hardest part was of course sewing the cushion.  I always seem to choose chairs that have curves.  Must be because I am use to my curves (teehee).  I cannot believe that I actually waited years to transform this beauty.  If you drop by unannounced, you may find me dressed like a queen sitting on my new throne.  Goodness what will the neighbors think ;)

Project springs from inspiration

Warning:  Extremely photo heavy post!

I know you understand.  We have all been there.  Drooling over another blogger's home.  I have followed Savvy Southern Style for a long time.  I absolutely fell head over heels in love with her hutch.  Just take a look at it.

Now that you have seen it, you can understand why my heart went pitter patter.  I have been on the hunt for just the right piece.  With diligence and time, I came across just the right candidate on craigslist.

It start out like this:

Indecision hit and I put out a call for help to you guys.

I decided to go with ASCP Paris Gray base coat with a dry brush of ASCP Pure White.  These shots are from Christmas.

When I put away the Christmas decor, I wasn't diggin' the blue anymore.  I decided to take everything out and paint the back gray.  Then, I set to work cramping in as much of my ironstone hoard collection as I could.  I added a few touches of spring.  I am completely loving it.

Every time I walk by, I stop and smile!  I really love how it has turned out!  Love to know what you think.

Fluffing the booth

After a ridiculously long, cold, snowy filled winter, everyone is itching for spring.  My booth was in desperate need of a revamp.  I originally thought having a chalkboard wall would be so cool.  Little did I realize how difficult it would be.  There is no shortage of beautifully drawn on chalkboard walls out in blogland.  My problem is that I am not the best at drawing a picture, let alone filling a wall!

While blog hopping, I came across my inspiration from Maison Décor:

I just love the stenciled wall with the metallic paint!  I have never tried stenciling but thought it would be fun it give it a whirl. I grabbed a stencil from Hobby Lobby with my coupon.  First, I had to cover the black chalkboard paint with two coats of primer.  Then, I applied some oops paint I picked up at Lowe's.  Then, the fun started with the metallic paint and stencil.  I gotta say it got old after reaching the half way point!  I pushed my inventory just enough to give myself enough space to squeeze in a ladder and myself.  Okay, maybe just a little more than that but it felt like I was working in a drainage pipe!  Of course my partner in crime, my mom, was there to help out.  I have to say that it turned out great!  It was a bit of work but it gave my booth a much needed change.
Better?

Duck Egg Dresser

Hello all!

I don't know about you but I am itching for garage sale season to start.  During the winter, I rely on estate sales and auctions to get my deal thrills!  That is just what I got when I stumbled upon this dresser.

The gentleman helping me load it into my car really didn't believe I could get it into my backseat.  I assured him there have been many different pieces of furniture squeezed into that very car!  This piece was surprisingly heavy.  Of course, it went in without a hitch.

The top was pretty scratched up.  I grabbed ASCP Duck Egg Blue and gave it a coat or two.  Distressed it here and there.  Finishing it up with a coat of wax.

All ready for some lucky person!
