Slipping on something new

I decided I would blow the dust off the keyboard and surprise y'all.  There is no excuse for my absence.  No reason whatsoever, just living life.  I have continued being inspired by others posts.  I have worked on plenty of my own projects.

Today, I thought I would share how I dressed up my mannequin for my booth.  Every girl likes to slip on something new! I guess I should back up and show you my mannequin that I did up for an event around Christmas.

I started by making a hoop skirt for her.

Then came the layers.  First, I wrapped a fitted sheet around the hoop skirt.  Next came wiring on different Christmas tree branches.  Then wrapped my $1 red tablecloth find.

As you can tell, she isn't quite there yet.  I grabbed just a tad bit of cheap green shear material to add.  Cinched in the waist with a little bling.  The finishing touch all ladies need pearls!

I fell in love with this.  I had to display her in my bedroom during Christmas.  When it was time to take down Christmas, I knew I just had to keep dressing her.  As many of you know, pinterest is wonderful and dangerous.  I found so many ideas.  I decided I wanted to sit her on a bookshelf and make it seem as if everything was peeking out from under her skirt.  This is what I was able to create.

I think it would have been a bit better if I would have been able to hoop it out to create the look I want but with limited space and time, this was what I have come up with.  I wonder what I can come up with next!

Rainbow princess

I don't know about you, but I find throwing a kid's birthday party to be a tad stressful.  It seems the times of having just a cake and ice cream are outdated.  Really, how did our mothers do it without pinterest!  It is crazy just how the times have changed since I was young.  Oh, the pressure to produce a wonderful memory.  Okay, perhaps I am putting the pressure on myself.

My now 8 year old daughter wanted a party.  After my son stated that she couldn't because he didn't get one when he turned 8, I caved.  Am I a bad mom?  

For those of you with a fickle child, you know how much hair one can pull out as your 'precious' child changes her mind every five minutes.  The bad thing is that my daughter knows how to hop on pinterest to look for 'party ideas.'  What a can of worms!

After going through a million ideas, our theme finalized to princess with rainbow colors.  During my daughter's research, she found quite a few pricey dresses.  After much discussion, we compromised.  I was to make a no-sew rainbow tutu with some sort of matching shirt.  Of course, all the girls needed a tutu.  Oh yes, crowns too.

Gotta say, the ceiling idea looked so good on pinterest.  In reality, it was a pain in my rear but I think I pulled it off.

I don't know if you remember the lemonade stand I made or not.  This was a perfect occasion to drag it out of the garage.

I think I was up to my elbows in tulle the whole time I was making the tutus.  I decided to use them as a pop of color while we glamified the girls with makeup, glitter, fingernail polish, and crowns.

I had made lace crowns for the girls.  

After the girls got their beauty treatments, we played pin the horn on the unicorn.  I taped two pieces of cardboard together, sketched and painted the unicorn.

We played a couple of games but the big hit was karaoke.  I loved watching them.  It was a riot!  Unfortunately, I was enjoying the entertainment so much, I forgot to take pictures.

All the stress and work was for my rainbow princess!

DIY Lemonade Stand

I have been promising my daughter that I would make her a lemonade stand for a year now.  Yeah, I know that I am not getting the mom of the year award but maybe I will get nominated for a better late than never award.  When I found out our church was having a yard sale, it gave me the incentive I needed to get my rear in gear.

I just needed to scour the internet for inspiration or better yet a full out tutorial!

I followed this tutorial from girl Inspired.  Of course I altered it a bit. 

 

I started out using some old fence from my sister.  Since that was free, I only paid for L-brackets, 2 pieces of wood, pvc pipes and connectors. 

 

 

 

I pretty much followed the instructions from girl Inspired.  The main difference is that I made basically 4 sides.  The base consists of three sides that are attached by L-brackets.  This way I can disassemble it for easy storage. 



 I used paint on hand and dry brushed it on.

As you can see from the photo below, I decided to add an awning using pvc and extra material I had on hand.  I don't like to reinvent the wheel, which means that I of course searched out a DIY tutorial.  Sorry for the pictures being grainy.  I took them with my phone.  (Forgive me.  I am not photogenic)

Did you notice that I made us matching aprons which happen to match the pennant banner I made?

 

Who wouldn't buy lemonade for this pretty girl?
