Frenchy find

Hello all!  I have been meaning to post about this great garage sale find.  My mom, sister, daughter and I were driving past a garage sale.  Of course, I had to whip in to check it out.  I cannot say that my sister or daughter have this treasure hunting in their blood but I keep trying to change that.  Anyways, I almost missed this treasure among the bushes.  This is it:

What a great french find!

To a closer look at the painted scene on the bottom.

I have looked all over this thing for markings.  The only thing I could find has a stamped 12 on it.  If you have any ideas of the true value, please let me know.  The owner said it was her grandmother's.  She knew it was at least 89 years old.  Now, I don't know if this is really true or not but I would welcome any information you might know of pieces like this.

I hope you are having luck with your treasure hunting!!

Drawers, drawers

Before I get to the quick redo, I thought I would catch you up.  Tomorrow is hopefully my last ever chemo treatment!!!  It is bittersweet.  I am happy to eventually grow my hair back, say goodbye to this port, and get rid of the fatigue.  At the same time, it is comforting to know that this medicine (poison) is killing the cancer.  I get three weeks off before my double mastectomy and placement of the tissue expanders.  I found out on Friday that I have the privilege of getting 28 radiation treatments.  I pretty much knew that would be the case since I have 4 tumors, the BRAC2 gene mutation, one tumor showed aggressive growth, and I am only 36.  I know radiation can produce less than optimal reconstruction results due to damage on the skin but I am hoping for the best.  I was just wanting to give those interested an update.

Now, on to the redo!

I came across this and just knew it was calling my name.

Did I need it?  No but knew it needed me.  To transform this with minimal work, the answer would be chalk paint.  I used my mixture of old white and aubusson blue.  Two coats later with some clear and dark wax to age it.  Then, gave the handles a shot of oil rubbed spray paint.  Now, I have drawers and drawers.

I'm not sure what I'll do with it or where I'll put it but for now I'll just look at it and enjoy it.

Suzy Sunshine

Hello ladies!  I just wanted to give you a big thank you for letting me have my mini therapy sessions and still sticking around.  I was told by my sis that my last post was a little strong.  Didn't mean for it to be but it sure felt good to let it out (since it had been bottled up for about a month).

Since I let it out, Debbie Downer hasn't been around.  Now it is just Suzy Sunshine!

(Finally, I have eyes in the back of my head!)

Have a wonderful day!

Okay, it is time for another round of free therapy.  The reason that I have been blogging less is that I have been having an internal struggle.  Everyone loves to tell the cancer gal about so and so who had breast cancer, then it came back, then it came back again, then she died.  Really people!  The last thing that someone going through chemo for their cancer wants to hear is how it kept coming back and won in the end.  People just don't realize that for those of us with the big C, our mortality is always on our minds whether or not we let you know.  I understand this is a way of connecting with us cancer gals but you just don't know until you know.

What I mean is that until you are served that dreaded C diagnosis, it is not likely you really get what we go through.  Cancer is what I have not who I am.  Unfortunately, it has flooded into my life and encompassed all aspects.  What should I eat?  Will this help the cancer grow?  What if I would have exercised more?  What if, what if, what if?  Then, I get to switch and think about all of the what ifs in the future?  What if I don't have a good reconstruction?  What if it comes back?  What if, what if, what if?

I have been pretty positive for the most part but here lately, I have hit a struggling patch.  With all of the stories people have told me about all of these women who have underwent one to two recurrences, it just frightens me.  To think that I will have to possibly go through this again as well as all of my family and friends.  Not to think that this big C could possibly get me.  It is all very terrifying but I suppose it is this little thing called life.

So, I have taken a short break from my reality of cancer and went back to some old habits of soda and fast food for a couple of weeks.  It was just getting exhausting to think of every morsel that was going into my mouth and deal with all of my fears while just keeping them to myself.  But as I have written and purged just now, I feel a renewed commitment to do whatever that I can to stick around for the next 40 to 50 years!

Well, that felt pretty good.  Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!  Ha!Ha!

Hot pink delight

Have you ever drafted a post and forgot to post it?  Well, this is one of those.  I have had this project done for a while but guess I just never hit post.  Last fall, I had picked up this desk and chair for $5 at a yard sale.  You have just got to love it when people just want something gone.

It isn't the best quality.  But for a 5 year old, I think it will work just fine.  Unfortunately, the desk had a pretty good musky smell.  I used my BIN oil-based shellac primer to coat inside and out to eliminate the odor.  Yes, I painted every surface, inside and out.  It worked like a charm.

Next, I painted a million layers of the paint to get this hot pink color my daughter picked.  Finally, I polyed it about 5 times on top.  My little angel is an artist.  I wanted to make sure the top could endure her artistic endeavors.  Then to finish it up, I found great knobs at Hobby Lobby.  It is now a hot pink delight.

Here take a closer look at the knobs.  Don't they look like they were made for this desk?

I would love to know what you think.  Drop me a line.  I am sharing over at:
